iPhone 3.0 is out - and there is a NotesPro update

Please download the new agent file:

We have made some minor tweaks to make NotesPro work with v3.0 of the iPhone. No new app is required.

Look forward to some exciting new changes to NotesPro in the coming weeks. We have a solution for those of you that use portals, single-signon, etc!

Stay tuned!

NotesPro v1.2 is available!

Good news all - NotesPro v1.2 has been approved by Apple and is in the App Store.

If you’ve purchased v1.1 or NotesCal - v1.2 is a free upgrade!

Updates in this version:

  • Fixed crashing when loading large sets of data - i.e. there should be theoretically no limit to the number of contacts you can load.
  • Support for international characters has been fixed.
  • Timezone support has been fixed.
  • Support added for DD/MM/YYYY date format.
  • Ability to use built-in iPhone mail client to reply to or send emails.
  • Maximum emails to download has been increased to 60
  • More verbose user feedback when checking mail and refreshing calendar/contacts/todo
  • Added ‘Today’ button to calendar to quickly jump to today’s entry.
  • Limit on contacts, mail, calendar entries and todos is now limited by your drive space and time - the issues with large contact lists have been solved!

Also - please make sure to download the new agent file for v1.2!

v1.2 update

I wanted to update and let everyone know that we were rejected for v1.2 due to a bug - but that has been fixed and resubmitted to Apple.

Sign up for the newsletter if you would like to be notified when the latest version hits the app store.

Additionally - contrary to my previous v1.2 post we have made updates to the Agent file that we will release when v1.2 is approved. This should offer more stability and also improve the reliability of data in the contacts and todo portions of the app.

Push Notification of events in Notes Pro

Apple has officially announced version 3.0 of their iPhone software and with this comes an important announcement for Notes Pro - the addition of Push notification. But - like all good things - it has its drawbacks.

Apple’s push notification requires a central server on the developer’s end to push notifications to Apple. What this means is that to implement this feature Notes Pro would require your Lotus Notes server to send a central JM Interactive server data and then the server at JM Interactive server would push notification out to your phone.

We haven’t tested whether this is even feasable yet - as the Push servers are not available to developers - but we would like to know if this is something our potential and current users would be interested in. We could have varying levels of notification as well - a simple badge alerting you of a new email - or a verbose popup with the sender and/or subject line. Per Apple, these notifications are not 100% reliable nor are they secure, so this is something to take into consideration as well.

Please take a second to answer the poll on the side of the website and let us know your preference.

Lastly - a little more about their announcement. They have still not opened up the calendaring application to external apps. This means - for the time being - that using the calendar on Notes Pro will stay within Notes Pro and cannot sync up to your iPhone’s internal calendar. This is a limitation of the SDK we hope will be lifted in so we can fully integrate into the iPhone in a future version of Notes Pro.

Thanks to all beta testers!

We’ve tested for a couple days - and I think this is a solid build.

Internally, we tested on an iPod Touch and iPhone, tested with Lotus Notes server v6, 6.5, 7, 8 and 8.5

We tested Japanese, Russian, Italian, French, Spanish, and Simplified Chinese.

We’re confident this should fix language issues, timezone issues, and date format issues.

Again, thank you everyone for your support and your patience while we get this worked out.

v1.2 has been submitted to Apple for approval, and I will update when it has been approved. Note that in the new version an Agent file update is not required, although I have made some tweaks to the agent file to make it more stable so I would recommend grabbing the new one when posted (I’ll do that when v1.2 is published).

For the next version we plan on improving our network and storage code to make it quicker and more efficient. We also will be adding calendar entry creation.

Lastly - v1.2 also adds a feature many have desired - you can now optionally choose to use the built-in iPhone mail client to send mail, reply to mail, or email contacts in the contacts list.

An Update…

Hi everyone. We’re almost done with the latest version of NotesPro but we need some testers to help us iron out the kinks.

We’re currently in need of 10 beta testers for the next version. We really need people with the following requirements:

  • Foreign language characters used in email / calendar (like russian, japanese, chinese, etc)
  • Non-US date format (dd/mm/yyyy vs mm/dd/yyyy)
  • Timezones on the positive side of GMT (east of GMT)

Others will be considered as well, but that’s our biggest need at the moment as the next version is really aimed at getting our non-US timezone and language support shored up.

If you’re interested, please send an email to betarequest@jimmymooney.com letting us know

  • Which of those requirements you fulfill (if any)
  • What you consider your approximate technical aptitude (it helps for testing purposes to be able to explain what you’re experiencing)
  • The UUID from your iPhone (when plugging in your phone to iTunes, click on the serial number field).

Know that this version has not had a lot of tweaks to the networking code, so if you’re one of the folks that has had trouble getting it to work because of a server incompatibility please wait to respond for a subsequent announcement. This is mostly for foreign-language testers and non-US timezone and date formats.

Good morning everyone!

We’ve been hard at work on our next release. Apologies it’s taking so long, but we want to make sure as many of the requests and issues that have been brought up have been resolved.

We’re looking to go into beta on it in the coming week or two, and expect to submit to Apple soon after that.

Stay tuned!

Bugfix in the latest updates

For those of you having issues with the calendar stopping after a specific date, download the latest agent file and install it. We’ve made a fix that should take care of your issue.

Please e-mail us if you have any more problems.

Agent update, Local Contact syncing now supported

If you have Lotus Notes 8, and you replicate your contacts to the server, I’ve created a new script that allows you to sync these contacts to your iPhone.

Download it here

It’s a new agent file to replace the NotesPro agent on the server setup page. It will not sync both global and local contacts - this will come in an update version because of an issue in the way the app currently handles syncing both lists.

Also! An updated version of the regular NotesPro agent file is available:

Download it here

It adds additional stability when syncing contacts, as well as a bugfix when sending mail to yourself.
